In statistics, variables are measured metrics. They are numbers (age, weight, and length) or characteristics (ethnicity, profession, gender) that can be measured. Variables that are measured with numbers are called quantitative variables. Variables that can only be measured using words are called qualitative variables. In statistics, variables are different from factors, but they do work together with factors.
